Lobster plants purchase live lobsters from several sources:
The receiving process is characterized by a relatively high number of suppliers and consequently requires a large volume of data entry and record keeping as shipments are received.
Accounting needs to know who the supplier is, the weight of each crate received, as well as the time and date. Typically, all of this information is recorded on a receipt and a copy of the receipt is given to the supplier. Payment follows immediately or may be delayed a few days, depending on the company policy.
Recordkeeping by hand-written forms is prone to errors and ommissions, both in the initial recording and in the transcription of data into the accounting system.
Accurately recording lobsters received is essential to success for lobster processors because mistakes can be very costly, both in time and money. It is important that both the supplier and the plant have knowledge of, and accountability for, each and every delivery to the plant.
Mr. Rhyno, a regular supplier, has just unloaded 5 crates of lobster. The "end box" button (lower left) is pressed as each crate is weighted.
Pressing the "end lot" button (lower right) after the last crate has been removed from the scale, generates the final report, which is printed as a receipt for Mr. Rhyno, and is stored internally for transmission to the Accounting Department.
The Know Tech lobster receiving system provides accurate, permanent, computerized records of what was purchased, when it was purchased, which supplier it was purchased from, and how much was paid.
